‘Sky is the limit’ for Teejay after inking record deal with Warner – Solid Agency
Dancehall artiste Teejay is expected to benefit from Warner Music Group’s vast connections and funding after signing off on what is being touted as the local music fraternity’s “biggest deal for the year”.
The Drift hitmaker, real name Timoy Jones, and Warner Records President of A&R Steve Carless put ink to paper on the publishing administration and recording deal this week at the Warner Music Group headquarters in Manhattan, New York.
A veteran music executive, Carless has defined the careers of multiplatinum selling artistes like Jeezy and YG, Nipsey Hussle and Dave East among others. He met TeeJay at the inaugural Island Music Conference in Kingston earlier this year, as TeeJay sat on a panel and had also performed at the conference. After the pre-summer drop and hit of TeeJay’s single Drift, a record deal was in the making, according to Solid Agency, which manages the artiste.
“With a major double Drift deal like this one and Warner machinery behind him, sky is the limit… Perhaps the greatest benefit of signing to a record deal is gaining access to the label’s connections, resources, and funding pot,” stated the release, adding “Established labels are able to provide their artistes with just about anything they need to further their music careers.”
Solid Agency boss Sharon Burke expressed confidence that this is just the start for Teejay and that his attitude and commitment will take him to the top.
“TeeJay will do well because he is a good artiste who is committed to the music and the journey to the top,” Burke said.
Solid Agency’s attorney Andrew Krents shared similar sentiments.
“It’s no surprise that relentless work has paid off and it couldn’t have happened for a better artiste than TeeJay, whose output is always at such a high level,” he said.
TeeJay’s Drift is viral on TIK TOK with over 20 million views. It has also blown up internationally with the biggest numbers in London, New York, Atlanta and Africa, according to Solid Agency.
