Shewsbury, Russia continue hunt for semi-final spots
LLANDILO, Westmoreland — Shewsbury FC and Russia FC will continue their quest for places in the semi-finals of the Westmoreland Football Association/Victor Lowe Major League when they take on Sav-la-Mar United and Grange Hill FC, respectively, today at Llandilo Sports Complex.
Both Shewsbury FC and Russia FC are on nine points each and would join fourth-place team Twelfth Street on 12 points if they can score wins over their struggling opponents.
Shewsbury FC are coming off back-to-back wins and face a Sav-la-Mar team that has lost their last four games, including going down 8-1 to joint leaders Tuscany Warriors in their most recent outing.
Russia FC will be seeking to make up for their their 1-0 loss to Petersfield FC and will start favourites against Grange Hill FC who are second to last and whose only win was against Sav-la-Mar United in late May.
Meanwhile, Straths FC moved into third place after blanking Belmont Uprising 6-0 on Sunday, Ryan Barrett leading the way with a hat-trick as Belmont Uprising allowed four goals in the final eight minutes.
The win saw Straths FC take over third place with 13 points, two behind Tuscany Warriors and Petersfield FC.
Barrett scored in the 12th, 82nd and 83rd minutes while there were goals for Raheem Wright in the 40th minute, Kendon Tomlinson in the 80th minute, and Ishmael Porter in the 90th minute.
