Kern Spencer supporters protest following Jess victory in St Elizabeth NE
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica— Following Sunday’s crushing loss by Kern Spencer, some of his supporters burned shirts bearing the image of Zuleika Jess, an attorney, who received the majority support of delegates to represent the People’s National Party in St Elizabeth North Eastern for the next parliamentary election.
Jess polled 569 to Spencer’s 209 votes.

There was a voter turnout of 61.2 per cent representing 780 delegates who voted. Two ballots were rejected. There were 1,274 delegates eligible to vote.
There was jubilation among supporters and delegates aligned to Jess. However, shortly after the results were announced at the St Elizabeth Technical High School in Santa Cruz on Sunday afternoon, angry supporters and delegates aligned to Spencer started burning shirts bearing Jess’ image.

There were physical clashes between supporters of Jess and Spencer as stick-wielding protesters fought on the main road.
