Hallgrímsson expected to name Gold Cup squad today
THE Reggae Boyz’ 23-man squad for the Concacaf Gold Cup should be named after Monday’s international friendly against Asian opponents Jordan at Wiener Neustadt Ergo Arena in Austria.
A number of senior players did not make it to the camp after being given time off by the coaching staf, and while Head Coach Heimir Hallgrímsson did not rule out any of the players in the camp, he admitted they have an idea of who will make the final cut.
“In our minds, yes, we know,” Hallgrímsson told an online pre-game press conference yesterday. “Maybe we will name the Gold Cup squad in the post-game press conference [on Monday].”
One player who is not expected to be in the squad is midfielder Ravel Morrison, who last played for Jamaica in their Concacaf Nations League 2-2 draw with Mexico in March.
The Reggae Boyz coach said he spoke to Morrison after that game and they agreed that he needed to be playing more club football if he is to be included in the national team set-up.
Among the players who were not included in the Austrian camp are Leon Bailey, Michail Antonio, Damion Lowe, Ethan Pinnock, Bobby Decordova-Reid, and Jamal Lowe.
