AMASHIKA Lorne, a renowned television media personality, children’s book author, and principal director of her own communications firm Amashika & Associates Limited, is embarking on a transformative journey to revolutionise children’s education.
Introducing Create With Aunty Ama, Lorne’s innovative summer camp, aims to inspire and empower young minds through an immersive curriculum that combines traditional subjects with artistic and technological disciplines.
Taking place from July 3 to August 11 at the Summit facility on Chelsea Avenue, this six-week camp is set to provide a remarkable experience for 60 students aged five to 10 years old. Emphasising a deep appreciation for Jamaican culture, Lorne’s vision is to instil a sense of identity and pride in each young participant.
At the core of Create With Aunty Ama lies the #HeroJourney philosophy, guiding children through a transformative experience to uncover their unique talents and strengths. The camp fosters an environment where creativity is explored, skills are developed, and confidence is nurtured to navigate the challenges of the 21st century.
The comprehensive curriculum encompasses various disciplines including performing arts, visual arts and crafts, photography, film, cooking, robotics and coding, swimming, and exciting field trips around Kingston and St Andrew. This holistic approach aims to provide a well-rounded education that cultivates academic prowess and essential life skills.
While nurturing creativity, Create With Aunty Ama also places emphasis on maintaining students’ numeracy and literacy skills, ensuring a seamless transition into the upcoming school year. To enrich the camp experience, accomplished professionals from diverse fields will join Lorne as guest teachers, inspiring students and exposing them to different perspectives and possibilities.
