Market Bag: Food prices up at Coronation, brace for more increases, say vendors
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Food prices this week are higher at the Coronation Market and are expected to increase steadily over the next month, according to vendors at the facility.
They say the development is due to the impact the recent heavy rains had on supply.
“The rain that fell two weeks ago mash up the tomato, the sweet potato, carrot etc, everything ah water soak… the prices will go up for about the next month,” popular vendor Princess told OBSERVER ONLINE.
Among the prices shoppers should expect this week are $180 per pound for tomato, $300 for onion, $400 for ginger and $800 for lettuce.
Market Bag host Kelsey Thomas went to the downtown Kingston market with a budget of $4,000 this week. Check out what she could afford.
