Ricketts cops triple jump in Finland
WORLD Championships silver medallist Shanieka Ricketts won the women’s triple jump at Tuesday’s Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland, a World Athletics Continental Tour gold event, jumping 14.20m (0.7m/s).
Ricketts had a good series, with all five legal jumps being over 14.00m, while World Indoor championships medallist Kimberly Williams failed to make it into the final round after she finished ninth with a best of 13.38m (1.8m/s).
Turkey’s Tugba Danismaz finished second with a wind-aided 14.03 (2.6m/s), the only legal jump, while Neja Fillipic of Slovenia was third with a season’s best 13.83 (0.8m/s).
Adelle Tracey was fourth in the women’s 1500m, running a season’s best 4:04.65 seconds and finishing behind Ireland’s Sarah Healy who won with 4:03.85 seconds.
Italy’s Gaia Sabbatini was second in a season’s best 4:03.88 seconds and Great Britain’s Ellie Baker ran a personal best 4:03.95 seconds for third.
Fedric Dacres threw 66.09m, an improvement on the 65.87m he threw at a meet in Sweden on Monday, to place fifth in the men’s discus throw.
Sweden’s Daniel Stahl won with 70.38m, well ahead of Slovenia’s World Champion Kristjan Ceh who was second with 68.67m and Lukas Weishaidinger of Austria who came third with 66.84m.
Commonwealth Games medallist Shiann Salmon was seventh in the women’s 400m hurdles, running 55.81 seconds; Jessie Knight of Great Britain won in a season’s best 54.32 seconds; followed by Austria’s Sarah Carli who ran a personal best 54.66 seconds; with Finnish club runner Viivi Lehikoinen placing third in 54.88 seconds.
