Jaguars, Saints score big wins in invitational basketball league
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Granville Jaguars and Falmouth Saints scored big wins as the Western Basketball Association (WBA) Men’s Invitational League continued over the weekend, getting lopsided scores against Brown’s Town Eagles and Knibb Thunder, respectively, at the Montego Bay Cricket Club.
Dave Black led the way with 43 points as Jaguars scored a 90 points 132-42 win over Brown’s Town, while Saints were 84-19 winners over Thunder in their Trelawny derby.
Catherine All-Stars beat Muschett Falcons 69-55, while Boys Club Warriors beat Sav Elite Titans 96-32 on Sunday.
In the Women’s Invitational League, Lady Warriors beat Lady Thunder 42-15 as Lady Elite1 romped past Golden Eagles 53-2.
Black had a double-double as he also had 11 rebounds and seven assists for Granville who were the first team to go over the 100 points mark this season.
John-Carlos Reyes also had a double-double with 32 points and 18 rebounds, Demoy Daye scored 14 points and had eight rebounds, Cleon Morgan scored 11 points and had eight rebounds, Otis Foster scored 10 points as Hubert Rodney scored nine points and had 12 rebounds and Makhayan Morris scored five points and had 11 rebounds.
Peter Chambers scored 13 points and had 10 rebounds for Browns Town, Rodane Whorms scored 15 points and Johmar Ingram also grabbed 12 rebounds.
After a sluggish start, Falmouth Saints recovered to swamp Knibb Thunder who fell to their third-straight loss.
Kenrick Lindo had a double-double for Falmouth, scoring 18 points and had 13 rebounds, Aldane Anderson had a game high 19 points and Flawless Travers scored 16 points for the winners.
Catherine Hall rallied from a first quarter seven-point deficit to beat Muschett by 14 points with Craig Dorman and Odane Whittaker both getting double-doubles.
Falcons led 20-13 after the first quarter, but Catherine Hall rallied to cut the deficit to two points (34-36) at half-time before taking the lead after the third quarter 53-48.
Dorman scored a game high 21 points and had 11 rebounds, Whittaker scored 10 points and had 11 rebounds, Jermaine Rerrie scored nine points with Goyan Malcolm and Robert Walker both scored eight points.
Lamon Thompson scored 20 points for Muschett, Michael Thompson scored 12 points and Fayzon McDermott scored 10 points.
Boys Club Warriors scored their first win, beating Sav-Elite 96-32 as Levar Rose led the way with 31 points and had eight assists, Kimauny Welch scored 17 points and Darren King scored 12 points.
Richard Russell was the only Sav-Elite players to score in double digits with 11 points.
On Saturday, Lady Warriors won their third game, turning back Lady Thunder 42-15 with Jamelia Hines scoring a game-high 14 points and Nicole Dias scoring 12 points and had nine rebounds.
Kaydeen Thompson scored 10 points for Lady Thunder who showed up with just five players.
Dandreicka Whittingham scored 22 points and had eight rebounds for Lady Elite1 in their win over Golden Ravens who were held to zero points in the first three quarters.
Nejron Stephenson scored 12 points and had nine rebounds.
