Mt Pleasant win first JPL title
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Mt Pleasant FA won theirs and St Ann’s first ever Jamaica Premier League title on Sunday when they outlasted Cavalier FC 2-1 in the final played at Sabina Park in Kingston.
Sue Lae McCalla scored two headers, both from corners as Mt Pleasant FA who started its football life as Stoosh in the Bush in the St Ann leagues, became the 14th team to win the Jamaican top club football title.
It was also the first Premier League title as a coach for Theodore Whitmore in his first season with the club after winning the title as a player with St James clubs Violet Kickers and Seba United.
Cavalier FC were seeking to win the title for the second time in three seasons but came up just short.
McCalla gave Mt Pleasant FA the lead after just seven minutes but the packed Sabina Park had to wait until the 83rd minute for Cavalier to draw level when Collin Anderson equalised from close range.
Mt Pleasant would not be denied however, and McCalla headed home another corner, one from late substitute Ricardo Morris in the 89th minute and then weathered eight minutes of time added on to secure their first title.
