RG1 FIT on a mission to heal trauma through music
In 2016, after losing his infant son, Romar Jr, to pneumonia in a tragic twist of fate, dancehall-reggae artiste RG1 FIT was forced to take serious stock of his life. He embraced music with a whole hearted passion that afforded him the chance to heal.
“I was in a dark place, music was my therapy at the time,” the artiste, whose real name is Romar Gordon, said.
“Losing my son put rounda one dark place, but the greatest thing is that it only made me fall deeper in love with the art of music. It was a therapeutic outlet for me during this devastating time. Now, my son lives on through my music, he is my guardian angel,” he added.
He is promoting his latest single, Energy Energy, released on the E square Records label.
“It’s a song that warns about people’s energy, some people project good energy, others project evil energy, you have to be careful who you go around, so this song is a warning,” he said.
He grew up in the community of Cornwall Courts in Montego Bay, St James. Always intrigued by music, as he grew older, he discovered his own voice and passion for music, writing songs and entering talent contests in his community during his teens.
“I was inspired by Sizzla and Mavado, I always admired their vocal range and diverse sounds,” he said.
In 2022, he first got recognition after teaming up with E-square Records to produce a song called ‘Unreleased’.
“I developed a great chemistry with E Square Records, more like a brotherhood and the team just came together with one dream, to make it the world of music,” he said.
Since that time, he has released several songs which are streaming online. He plans to release an EP, and is determined to make his son proud of him.
“I am doing this in the memory of my son, he would have wanted me to pursue my dreams,” he said.
