Clean sweep?
MONTEGO BAY, St James – Herbert Morrison will be seeking to complete a clean sweep of all ISSA Western Conference basketball titles on Thursday when they take on Cornwall College in the Under-14 boys’ final at the Montego Bay Cricket Club, starting at 3:30 pm.
Herbert Morrison won the Boys’ Under-16 and Under-19 and Girls’ Open titles earlier and topped the regular season tables in the Boys’ Under-14 after beating Cornwall in two of their three meetings.
Both teams have also qualified for the ISSA National play-offs set for Wednesday, June 14 at a venue to be decided.
Herbert Morrison got the edge on Friday when they won the tie-breaking game 40-30 and secured the home advantage in the final.
Cornwall had, however, beaten Herbert Morrison 34-29 at Herbert Morrison on May 11 after they had lost their first meeting 12-22 at Cornwall College in their opening game.
On Friday, Herbert Morrison won thanks to a big third quarter and despite a game-high 14 points from Cornwall College’s Carlyle Tinglin.
Cornwall College led 12-1 after the first quarter and 17-4 at half-time before a big third quarter from Herbert Morrison 30-2 gave them the lead 34-19, effectively deciding the outcome.
Donier Lynch scored 12 points and had seven rebounds and six steals to lead Herbert Morrison, while Tyler Linton scored seven points and Shamar Russell and Michael Johnson got six each.
Tinglin also had eight steals for Cornwall College while Jonathan Smart, Nathan Hinds and Andrew Reid all scored four points each in support.
