No spike in patty price – Tastee
KINGSTON, Jamaica – There has been no adjustment made to the price of its patties, according to Tastee Limited.
The patty giant made the revelation as it sought to dismiss rumours which had been swirling online that the price of its signature patty products, beef and chicken patties, had increased by almost 50 per cent.
In a statement posted to its social media pages, the company shared that it was aware of the misleading information being circulated online.
According to Tastee, the price list, which had been making the rounds, referred specifically to a delivery service not offered by the company.
“It has come to our attention that there are incorrect prices of our products circulating on the internet, particularly on certain websites and online platforms. We want to clarify that these prices are for a delivery service and do not reflect the current pricing of our products”.
Tastee also apologised to its customers for any inconvenience caused by the spurious information.
However, this information may have come a little too late.
Despite the clarification and apology made by the patty maker, Tastee had already been catching flak from some Jamaicans, who claimed that they would boycott the establishment.
“Not buying no more patty from there… this is a disgrace,” said one Instagram user.
“This Jamaica come to, we gone to the dogs,” added another.
Some individuals who read the company’s statement slammed Tastee for taking too long to respond, while others used the opportunity to clamour for more online engagement, as they sought to find the actual product price lists.
“You guys ought to have been more responsive than this. This is old news and perhaps believed to be fact at this point,” chided one user.
Anecdotally, the cost of a patty is viewed as a standard of living indicator, as it is deemed as the most basic of treats that workers from all economic classes should be able to afford.
Based on information gathered from the BOJ, patty prices usually remain in line with inflation; currently, a beef patty retails for between $220 and $250.
