Master move!
Dear Editor,
Prime Minister Andrew Holness’s appointment of Abka Fitz-Henley to the Senate is a master move.
I’ve followed Fitz-Henley since he burst on the scene as a 12-year-old who aced multiple subjects, which are usually only passed by youngsters in their mid to late teens, and was a fixture in the National Schools’ Debate competition.
His career in media has been exemplary. I remember his initial days in media when he clashed at press conferences with several ministers, including then Information Minister Daryl Vaz, about issues related to governance, then be a thorn in the side of non-performing Cabinet ministers when the People’s National Party assumed office. Since that time I thought this young man’s future would be bright, because he does not only have the intellect but he also has the courage to cause change.
The prime minister has no doubt given an opportunity to one of Jamaica’s best and brightest minds. I hope young Fitz-Henley does not take the opportunity for granted and manages to remain grounded. Should he do so, the sky is the limit for him.
Hopefully, Fitz-Henley will be able to improve the communication output of the Government and grow from strength to strength.
