Zandre Roye leads golfers in National Amateur Golf Champs
Zandre Roye had a slim three-stroke lead in the Jamaica Golf Association’s National Amateur Golf Championship at Caymanas Golf Club in St Catherine on Saturday.
At the end of the second of three rounds, he had posted a combined total of one under par 143 after scoring one under par 71 and par 72 for rounds one and two, respectively. He was, however, just three strokes ahead of William Knibbs who totalled 146 after two rounds. His scores were 74 and 72, respectively.
Dr Mark Newnham occupied the third spot after posting scores of 78 and 72 for an overall total of 152, which was nine strokes off the lead.
The defending champion Oshae Haye was 18 strokes behind the leader. He had a rough first round of nine over par 81 and eight over par 80 in the second round for a combined total of 161. With only one round to go, it looks highly doubtful that he will be able to retain the championship.
Robert Chin was the sole leader in the Men Super Senior category, with scores of 80 and 78 for 158 overall. He was four strokes ahead of his brother and former Jamaica Golf Association President Peter Chin. At that stage Peter’s 162 came on the back of 85 in round one and 77 in the second round.
Radcliff Knibbs and Dorrel Allen were joint third on 163 each.
Today’s third and final day will see the top three golfers — Roye, Knibbs and Dr Newnham — tee off at 9:20 am.
