Gentleman’s ‘Superior’ certified gold in Germany
Arguably Germany’s biggest selling reggae act, singjay Gentleman has been a fan of reggae music since he began traveling to Jamaica during his teenage years.
He has collaborated with entertainers including Sizzla, Christopher Martin, Toots Hibbert, Jack Radics, Richie Stephens, Ky-Mani Marley, Ras Shiloh, Anthony B, Tony Rebel, Cocoa Tea and Barrington Levy.
Last month, one of his reggae songs, the popular hit Superior, was certified gold in Germany. The certification was issued by Bundesverband Musikindustrie (BVMI) which translates to Federal Music Industry Association in English. It commemorated sales and streaming exceeding 200,000 units.
Superior is featured on Gentleman’s 2004 album Confidence which features collaborations with several Jamaican acts. The album went to number one on the national charts in Germany and Austria.
Upon its release 19 years ago, Superior peaked at number 20 on both the pop charts in Germany and Austria while ranking at number 76 in Switzerland. The song was produced by Ingo Rheinbay for Pow Pow Productions.
Another popular reggae song by Gentleman is the Don Corleon-produced Intoxication which was featured on the Drop Leaf rhythm. That song is also featured on the album Confidence, and it peaked at number 33 in Germany and number 58 in Austria.
The Confidence album was recorded in Jamaica.
