Cracking The Love Code
It’s not every day that two brilliant minds come together to crack the code of love! But techies Kedishia Soares and Javon Moatt beat the odds!
Their shared passion for technology brought them together during studies at the University of Technology. Kedishia was a first-year School of Computing and Information Technology council member while Javon, a third-year student, was the president. Though their love story took time to develop there was no disputing the chemistry.
For two years, they remained friends, each waiting for the perfect moment to confess their true feelings to each other. It wasn’t however until Kedishia entered the Miss UTech pageant that Javon finally took the bull by the horn! There would be a spoke in the wheel though when Javon had to leave to pursue a training course overseas. With distance plus the fact that they had taken the time to truly know each other, absence kept the flames well-lit. “I knew Javon was the one when he went the extra mile to keep our connection alive, even when he was far away,” Kedishia told Tuesday Style Vows (TSV).
The Proposal
A Christmas trip with Kedishia’s family in 2022 sealed the deal for Javon — he was ready to take their four-year relationship to the next level. Little did Kedishia know that on the 29th of January, 2022 her life was about to change in the most romantic way.
“My friend invited me to her birthday dinner, but it was all a ruse to get me to Hope Gardens,” said a smiling Kedishia. She found herself walking up an aisle adorned with rose petals, and tealight candles, family and friends on either side to the strains of Steady Love by India Arie. “As I made out Javon’s figure, I knew that he was about to pop the big question. And he did, in the most heartfelt way possible!” a blushing Kedishia told TSV.
Wedding Bells
The wedding held at the Caymanas Golf Club on March 7, 2023 commenced with worship led by close friend of the bride, Daniella Drummond. Javon made a dashing statement at the altar in an emerald green three-piece suit from Statement Pieces as he awaited his bride.
The instrumental version of Ave Maria signalled Kedishia’s arrival. Escorted by her parents, Michael Soares and Nickeisha Carr-Soares, she was breathtaking in a satin ballgown complete with lace bodice from Bliss Bridal. Her 16-foot lace embroidered cathedral veil added an ethereal touch. Her bouquet of pampas grass, roses, peonies, hydrangeas, and eucalyptus stems by iKraveArt was the perfect foil to the blush, emerald, and tan theme created by JB Events.
The ceremony was a blend of traditions, with the parents completing a handfasting ceremony, an ancient Celtic ritual in which the hands are tied together to symbolise the binding of two lives. This was followed by a three-strand cord ceremony and the exchange of vows that the couple had written to each other.
A whimsical heartfelt moment that saw guests receiving his and hers custom-made ice cream by Kremi Bliss — an ode to the many ice cream dates the couple had shared over the years — brought the ceremony to a close.
The Soirée
As the wedding moved into the reception area of the Caymanas Golf Club the bridal tribe’s choreographed dance steps to Beyoncés Cuff It set the tone for the festive evening ahead. Not to be outdone, the groomsmen also made a stylish entrance, rocking their sunnies to the beats of Burna Boy’s Ye.
But all eyes turned to the happy couple when they made their grand entrance to Beginning by Joeboy, then taking to the dance floor for their first dance as husband and wife to A Whole New World by Zayn and Zhavia Ward.
As the evening progressed, guests enjoyed dinner and more surprises. “We entertained our family and friends with a secret dance that the bridesmaids and I had been planning for weeks,” shared Kedishia. The couples’ mothers lifted the veil of the cake. This was followed by the father-daughter and the mother-son dances, which left many misty-eyed.
With the unveiling of the cake by the couple’s mothers and the father/daughter and mother/son dances put to bed, there was naught left for guest to do but capture memories and magical moments in the 360 Photo Booth.
The newly-weds later honeymooned at the Moon Palace Jamaica All Inclusive Resort, Ocho Rios, St Ann.
