UK retirees, stranded with flat tyre, robbed shortly after arriving in Jamaica
Two elderly UK residents were held up and robbed in Clarendon Park, Clarendon, on Tuesday night, shortly after arriving on the island.
The two retirees, ages 82 and 71 years, were robbed along with a woman after their vehicle developed a flat tyre, police told OBSERVER ONLINE.
Reports were that the elderly couple arrived at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston from England and were picked up by a woman in a grey Toyota Noah motor vehicle.
They left the airport en route to Mandeville, Manchester, but developed a puncture and stopped in Clarendon Park.
Police said, while there, a grey-coloured motor car stopped, and the occupants enquired about the situation. They were told the vehicle had a puncture and assistance was on the way. The men informed them that a tyre shop was nearby and drove off.
The same car returned shortly after, and two men reportedly alighted from the vehicle, which parked near the roadway.
The men approached the Noah, and one brandished a knife, held up one of the retirees and took an envelope containing £6,000 and J$60,000. The other retiree was robbed of two Samsung cell phones, valuing £250 each, a Sony Xperia valuing £100 and a piece of luggage.
The woman was robbed of a pouch containing her driver’s license, bank card and about J$8,000.
Police said the culprits then ran and boarded the motor vehicle and drove off in the direction of Porus.
