WATCH: Samuda announces new minimum rates for security guards
Minister of Labour Karl Samuda says the implementation of new minimum rates for security guards will go ahead as planned on June 1, 2023.
Among the increases, the minimum salary for industrial security guards per 40-hour work week moves from $10,500 to $14,000 – effective June 1, 2023 for the next two years.
Speaking in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Samuda also said the revised hourly rate for work done by security guards not exceeding 40 hours will increase to $350 per hour while work done for any period in excess of 40 hours will attract a time-and-a-half rate of $525 per hour.
He also noted that allowances payable to security guards will also be increased. Among them are:
Laundry allowance – increases from $47.62 to $52.38 per hour;
Firearm premium allowance – increases from $51.95 to $57.15 per hour;
Dog handlers premium allowance – increases from $35.72 to $39.29 per hour; and
Life insurance coverage with double indemnity protection and dismemberment coverage increased from $2, 976,000 to $3,275,000.
