Pilot arrested in Kingston airport drug bust granted bail
KINGSTON, Jamaica – A pilot who was arrested after being found in possession of several packages containing ganja at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston recently, was granted bail when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Friday.
Kenado Thomas, a 35-year-old resident of Turks and Caicos, was granted bail in the sum of $2 million with up to two sureties.
Allegations are that on April 23, packages of ganja were found in a suitcase belonging to Thomas. The ganja is said to have weighed 18 pounds.
Thomas was charged with possession, dealing in, conspiracy to export and attempting to export ganja.
The accused, who is being represented by attorneys Peter Champagnie KC and Samoi Campbell, is scheduled to return to court on June 12 when the Crown is expected to have the case file completed.
During Friday’s hearing, the attorneys, in their submissions, told the court that the Crown would have difficulty establishing that their client had knowledge that the packages contained ganja.
