It’s Cinco de Mayo! And the Jamaica Food and Drink Kitchen in collaboration with the Mexican Embassy and Tacbar began the countdown on Wednesday, May 3, 2023. What better way to celebrate than with a tasting of three varieties of mezcales — Espadin, Cupreata and Criollo? And sommelier Antonio Sanchez, from Coneja en la Luna, a Mexican artisanal mezcal company in Mexico, jetted to The Rock to demonstrate how the mezcales are to be properly sipped.
Before the festivities kicked off, Mexican Ambassador to Jamaica Juan José González Mijares shared the history of Cinco de Mayo and its importance to both Mexico and the Caribbean Diaspora before handing the floor over to Sanchez.
With Sanchez steering the proceedings, guests indulged in a sensory experience as they sipped, swirled, and savoured the flavours of each unique mezcal.
