Talk about Persistence
A quiet achiever of contemporary reggae, Norris Man recently copped an award for his début album which was released over 20 years ago.
The veteran roots artiste was presented with a plaque marking over one million streams on Spotify for Persistence, released in 2000.
In an interview with the Jamaica Observer, the Sweden-based singer said the figures are proof of the album’s endurance and quality.
“Is a great works, di people still love it and Persistence is a song wha’ di fans call for all over di world,” he stated.
The song was produced by Colin “Iley Dread” Levy for King of Kings Productions. Released in 1997, it was Norris Man’s breakout hit and set the tone for his album of the same name.
It featured members of The Firehouse Crew, as well as bassist Flabba Holt, drummer Kirk Bennett, guitarist Lloyd Willis, and saxophonist Dean Fraser.
Persistence also includes songs such as Bad Road and Undiluted Love.
Norris Man, 50, was born Christopher Campbell and raised in Trench Town.
Persistence hit the charts six years after he launched his recording career.
In addition to Persistence, he is best known for the 2006 ballad Home And Away.
He has recorded nine solo albums, his previous being Deep Conversations, which was released last year by Train Line Records out of South Florida.
