Wesrok takes on Notting Hill Carnival
After gracing the stage at the recently concluded Ocho Rios and St Mary Kite Festivals, reggae-country singer Wesrok is in preparation mode for the Notting Hill Carnival in London this summer.
“It will be my first time performing at the Notting Hill Carnival. From my understanding, it’s a very huge Carnival and one that will attract many people across the world. I really look forward to being part of it and for the world on that side to see Wesrok. I know there are a lot of people in that circle, and that part of the world who have heard my music and who will be very happy to see who the person is,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
The Carnival will be held between August 27 and 28.
Wesrok, whose given name is Percival Buddan, hails from Bog Walk in St Catherine. A former police officer, he completed master’s degree in national strategic studies in 2010 at Northern Caribbean University (NCU) in Manchester.
He released a seven-track EP titled Look At Me Now in early 2021. He teamed up with Laalee this year on Is There A Party. The singer also had a set at last year’s staging of Reggae Sumfest.
The singer is also pleased with the trajectory his career is on and anticipates further growth.
“[My] career has been growing exponentially. Each performance is better than the one before, and to be a good artiste you just have to have the frequent exposure and you have to be open and learn from your experience. So, I would say my career has grown significantly. In terms of the fan base, in terms of the musical experience, a lot more persons are able to identify who Wesrok is,” he said.
In the meantime, the entertainer has a packed schedule with a slew of different projects and other public appearances.
“Currently, I’m working on the visuals for my new west single, Perfectly Imperfect. In another week or two that will be out. I’m also working on getting some promotions for my songs which are out there in different markets. So, I’ll be starting to do some travelling, and [I’m] also looking forward to some great performances. I’m looking forward to perform on the Michael Bolton show at the Ocho Rios Hotel [in May,” Wesrok said.
