JPS gets new chairman
The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) has announced that its former president and CEO Damian Obiglio has been appointed as chairman of its board of directors, effective April 8, 2023.
Obiglio succeeds Yong Hyun Kim, who served as chairman between October 1, 2021 and April 7, 2023.
Obiglio brings to his new role a wealth of diverse experience that spans several countries and companies. With more than 20 years of experience in the energy sector, he has worked in Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia and the Middle East, Europe and the United States of America. He has a solid track record of driving key strategic initiatives to improve the overall performance of the businesses he leads.
Obiglio is a former president & CEO of JPS, a position he occupied between 2006 and 2011. During his tenure, he significantly improved the company’s operational efficiency, as well as its financial and safety performances.
The new JPS chairman is a senior executive of Marubeni Power International Inc. He is senior vice-president of Marubeni’s Caribbean operations, and a board director at the Power Generation Company of Trinidad and Tobago Inc. Prior to joining Marubeni, Obiglio worked with Mirant (now NRG Inc), Abu Dhabi National Energy Company – TAQA, and the AES Corporation.
