Alleged goat thieves killed by police, gun seized
KINGSLAND, Manchester — A mid-afternoon high-speed chase and reported shoot-out between police and alleged gunmen accused of stealing four goats in Lacovia, St Elizabeth, ended here with two of the men dead, a third injured, and another on the run on Tuesday.
A senior police source told the Jamaica Observer that about 3:00 pm the St Elizabeth police were alerted about thieves placing goats in a black Toyota Vitz motor car.
The description of the vehicle was given to the Manchester police and a roadblock mounted on Spur Tree Hill main road.
The vehicle was spotted and the driver signalled to stop by the police. However, the driver increased speed and, according to the police, an occupant of the vehicle opened fire on the cops, resulting in a high-speed chase and gun battle.
The police source said the driver turned onto Kingsland Meadows where the vehicle was cornered by the police on Queensway Close.
Three of the gunmen were shot while another escaped.
The three injured men were taken to hospital where two of them were pronounced dead. The third man was admitted for treatment under police guard.
The source said during a search of the vehicle a firearm was seized and the four stolen goats found.
Up to press time, a joint police/military team was searching for the gunman who escaped.
