WATCH: Edith Dalton James student shot in neck while heading to school
KINGSTON, Jamaica – A 16-year-old Edith Dalton James student was shot in his neck while on his way to school on Monday morning.
According to Coleridge Minto, zone commander of the Duhaney Park Police Station, the student is now recovering.
“Sometime at about 10:30 this morning, a student was on his way to the school when an explosion was heard and he felt a burning sensation and subsequently recognised that he was hit in the back of his neck,” Minto told the OBSERVER ONLINE outside tthe St Andrew based school.
He added: “We are happy he’s alive and that he is now in a state of recovery. It is a very unfortunate situation that our students, who are on their way to or from school, can be meted out with this form of incident.”
As such, he is imploring residents, who may have information on the incident, to share it with the Duhaney Park Police Station or call 119, adding that the persons responsible must be brought to justice.
“He was able to run to the school where assistance was given and he was later taken to seek medical attention. His condition is stable at this time and we continue to appeal to the residents. Those who may have seen or heard anything to report it to the Duhaney Park Police Station, 119 or to the nearest police station,” Minto said.
