Irwin vs AIA in top-of-the-table Sandals U17 football
IRWIN, St James – A place in the semi-finals of the St James Football Association Sandals Resorts International Under-17 competition will be at stake Saturday when Irwin Academy and Athletes in Action (AIA) meet in a top-of-the-table clash at Irwin High at 3:00pm.
Irwin Academy are perfect so far, winning all four games to lead the standings with 12 points, two more than AIA who rebounded from a draw against St James High to beat St James Academy last weekend.
Third placed Granville United will face Green Pond High in the second game of a double header at Granville after St James High and St James Academy meet in the 1:00pm game.
At Wespow Park, Montego Bay Boys Club, fresh off their first win of the season, will take on Montego Bay United, starting at 3:00pm.
The Irwin-AIA game will take most of the spotlight, however, with Irwin Academy starting as favourites over AIA with their better record so far –scoring 10 goals and conceding just once with Detroy Reid leading the way with seven goals scored so far.
AIA have scored nine goals of their own and will hope Michael Balfour and Nichane Brown, who have both scored twice, can lead them to what would be an upset win.
Granville United are poised to take over second place, in the case of a win by Irwin Academy, if they can beat Green Pond who are three points behind.
St James High will hope to rebound from their first loss when they take on their training partners, St James Academy, and a win would put them into semi-final contention.
