#Champs2023: Mt Alvernia’s Foster wins class one long jump
KINGSTON, Jamaica -Mt Alvernia High’s Aaliyah Foster jumped a big personal best 6.33m to win the Girls’ Class 1 long jump on Saturday’s final day of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.
After being beaten in the final round of the CARIFTA Games Trials Under-20 event three weeks ago, Foster rebounded to win the event in her first year in Class 1 after she won the Class 2 gold medal last year.
Foster, who beat her previous personal best of 6.19m set in February while winning the COCAA Western Champs title, had the three best jumps in the competition as she also had marks of 5.91m and 5.97m.
Two jumpers from St Elizabeth Technical High, Richelle Stanley, who made the final in all three jumping events, was second with 5.81m, while her teammate Rojrika Campbell was third with 5.77m.
The Champs results matched the Girls Class 1 long jump from the COCAA Western Championships in February that saw Foster win with Stanley and Campbell placing second and third respectively.
