#Champs2023: KC’s McKenzie wins Boys’ Class 1 high jump
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Kingston College’s Aaron McKenzie won the Class 1 boys’ high jump gold medal on the final day of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.
McKenzie, who set the Class 2 record of 2.11m last year, had the same clearance as Jamaica College’s Chavez Penn and third placed Ovane Williams of St Mary High, all three clearing 2.05m.
McKenzie got the nod as his only failure came at 2.08m, where the top three failed; Penn had one failure at 2.05m while Williams, who was fifth in Class 1 last year, had two failures.
It was the second time McKenzie was denying Penn a title as he beat him last year in the Class 2 final.
