#Champs2023: Edwin Allen’s disqualification opens door for Hydel
KINGSTON, Jamaica— The Girls’ title at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium is still in the balance with a handful of events still to be decided after Edwin Allen High was disqualified after winning the 1600m sprint medley relays.
With the disqualification, Hydel High who won two of the four 4x100m relays leads after 43 finals with 260 points, four more than defending champions Edwin Allen high-256 with Holmwood Technical in third place on 175.
Hydel High won both the Class 1 and 2 finals, Wolmer’s Girls’ High won Class 3 and Mt Alvernia High won Class 4.
Led by sprint double champion Alana Reid, Hydel ran 44.33 seconds to win the Class 1 race, followed by Edwin Allen- 44.77 seconds and Holmwood Technical- 45.71 seconds.
The Class 2 team won with 45.01 seconds, beating St Jago High- 45.95 seconds and Holmwood-46.53 seconds.
Wolmer’s won Class 3 with 45.81 seconds, followed by Excelsior High- 46.41 seconds and Edwin Allen- 46.72 seconds.
Mt Alvernia High won Class 4 with 48.54 seconds, beating Holmwood -48.59 seconds and St Jago- 48.83 seconds.
