Holmwood Technical – Five the Hard Way
1. FLORENCE NAFAMBA – OPEN 2000M AND STEEPLECHASE
Florence Nafamba is head and shoulders above her peers here with leading times in the 2000m steeplechase and the 3000m Open events, and should score maximum points for her team.
2. JODYANN MITCHELL – CLASS 1 800M AND 1500M
She is the heavy favourite to win the 1500 metres after her record run of 4:30.31 minutes at the Central Athletics Championships recently. Mitchell should also be among the finalists in the 800 metres.
3. RICKIANN RUSSELL – CLASS 1 200M AND 400M
Russell will be involved in the clash of the championships when she goes toe-to-toe with Hydel High’s Oneika McAnuff in the 400 metres, with both athletes showing excellent form having gone sub-52 seconds in the event. The record of 51.13 seconds, which was set by former Holmwood star Sonita Sutherland in 2006, is under threat and Russell has made no secret of her intention to break it.
4. KEIRA MEIKLE – CLASS 2 100M AND 100M HURDLES
Meikle is the leader in the hurdles event after clocking 13.16 seconds, matching Hydel’s Camoy Binger who is ineligible this year. However, Meikle has St Elizabeth Technical’s Habibah Harris to contend with. Harris showed her pedigree after defeating World Under-20 silver medallist Alexis James at the higher hurdles height during the Carifta Trials.
5. CEDRICKA WILLIAMS – CLASS 1 DISCUS, SHOT PUT AND JAVELIN OPEN
Following her surprise defeat in the discus last year, Williams will be even more motivated this time around to deliver top marks. She has won the event in classes three and two in the past with record throws, and will want to leave the championships with a win and a clean sweep of the records in all classes.
