FIVE THE HARD WAY
1. JADE-ANN DAWKINS – CLASS 2 LONG JUMP AND OPEN TRIPLE JUMP
Jade-Ann Dawkins will be the flag bearer for the former champions and should walk away with two gold medals in events where she has proven herself to be a cut above her peers. She has a best of 6.12m in the Class Two long jump and 13.24m in the Open triple jump, even though both marks were done in negative wind.
2. JESSICA THOMPSON – CLASS 2 DISCUS
Following her season’s best of 36.43m in winning the Class Two discus at the Central Athletics Championships recently, she will arrive at Champs as the top seed and should win the event comfortably.
3. KIMEKA SMITH – CLASS 2 SHOT PUT
With a season’s best of 14.43m in the Class Two shot put, Kimeka Smith will be hoping to cement the silver medal in this event as Hydel High’s Natassia Burrell, with a leading throw of 16.16m, will be the overwhelming favourite at Champs
4. ABIGAIL MARTIN – CLASS 1 DISCUS
Abigail Martin should maintain St Jago’s good throwing results at Champs as her best of 53.59m places her at number two behind the outstanding Cedricka Williams of Holmwood.
5. TRECIA ANN GRANT – CLASS 4 200 METRES
Trecia-Ann Grant will carry the Monk Street team’s hopes of an individual medal on the track as her season’s best of 25.24 seconds makes her the second-best athlete in the Class Four 200m behind the outstanding Teixiara Johnson of Hydel.
