Purples bank on success in Class One, Open events
Defending champions Kingston College are slight favourites to lift the Mortimer Geddes Trophy ahead of Jamaica College and retain their boys’ title at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships
The North Street-based team will be hoping to get most of their points in Class One and Open events where they will be led by team Captain Bouwahjgie Nkrumie, who is a cinch for the Class One 100 metres and could become the country’s first sub-10 seconds athlete over the event at the junior level following his national junior record of 10.02 seconds. This time was done on his way to winning the silver medal last summer in Cali, Colombia, at the World Under-20 Championships.
Other key members in Class One are Antonio Forbes in the 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles, Ainsley Campbell in the 1,500m and 2,000m Open steeplechase, Rayon Walters in the long and triple jump, Aaron McKenzie in the high jump, Isiah Patrick in the Open pole vault and decathlon and African athletes, Ethan Gioka and Brian Kiprop, in the Open 5,000m.
The Kingston College team could score over 110 points in Class One while they should garner over 70 points in the Open events.
