Herbert Morrison High seek sixth-straight victory
MONTEGO BAY, St James —Leaders Herbert Morrison Technical will go after a sixth-consecutive victory on Thursday when they take on Irwin High in a return-round ISSA Western Conference Girls Open basketball game at Herbert Morrison in the second game of a double header set to start at 3:30 pm.
The games were originally set for Irwin High but were moved as the courts there are not able to host games.
The opener is between William Knibb Memorial and Holland High.
In another game Thursday, fresh from avenging their first-round loss to Irwin on Tuesday, Mt Alvernia High faces Muschett High at home.
On Monday, Herbert Morrison beat William Knibb Memorial 54-11 for their fifth straight, Holland High got by Muschett High 23-13, and Mt Alvernia High beat Irwin High 36-26.
Dandreika Wittingham scored 24 points to lead Herbert Morrison and had nine steals, Taveena Clarke scored 18 points, while Deondra Evans led William Knibb with five points.
Despite being outscored 14-3 in the fourth quarter, Mt Alvernia High got the better of Irwin High as they led 11-4 after the first quarter, 19-10 at half-time and were up 33-12 after the third quarter.
Moya Ricketts scored nine points for Mt Alvernia High, Tiana Spence scored six points and Caustina Holness scored five points while Jamelia Wright had a game-high 12 points for Irwin High.
Jemelia Hines scored 20 points to lead Holland High to their 10 points win over Muschett as they led 7-2, 17-4 and 21-6 after the first three quarters, respectively.
