Bluebots from JC wins NCB Foundation, FTC Jamaica robotics championship
The Jamaica College team Bluebots has emerged as the winner of the NCB Foundation, FTC Jamaica robotics championship, beating out tough competition from schools across the country and the Dominican Republic.
The event, held at the Jamaica College auditorium on February 24 and 25, brought together the brightest young minds in robotics to compete in a series of challenges designed to test their skills and knowledge. Team Bluebots impressed judges with their creativity, innovation and teamwork, ultimately securing the coveted top spot.
“We are incredibly proud of our team and their outstanding performance in the NCB Foundation, FTC Jamaica Robotics Championship,” said Orville Daley, lead programmer and upper sixth form student of Jamaica College.
“Our dedication, hard work and passion for robotics have paid off, and we are delighted that they have been recognised for our achievements. We believe that this competition is an excellent way to inspire and motivate young people to pursue STEM careers, and we are grateful for the opportunity to participate.”
Gavin Samuels of First Tech Challenge Jamaica (FTC) said, “Bluebots’ victory in the robotics championship is a testament to Jamaica College’s commitment to excellence and its dedication to promoting STEM education. We especially congratulate the winning team and the first runner-up, Team Blue Flames of Immaculate Conception High, for their hard work, creativity, and innovation. We look forward to seeing the continued success of both Bluebots and Blue Flames at the upcoming Houston World Championship events.”
The robotics championship aims to inspire and encourage young people to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). It provides a platform for students to showcase their talents and learn from experts in the field, fostering a passion for STEM subjects and robotics.
The winning team from Jamaica College was presented with the Inspire Award. Comprised of about 10 students, the team demonstrated exceptional talent and expertise in designing and building robots that performed complex tasks. Their innovative approach and problem-solving skills impressed the judges, who commended them for their creativity, teamwork and technical abilities.
The National Robotics Championship in Jamaica is a joint initiative by the NCB Foundation and FIRST Tech Challenge Jamaica aimed at promoting STEM education and providing young people with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the 21st century. The competition is part of a broader effort to foster innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship in Jamaica and ensure that the country remains competitive in the global economy.
