JGA fetes outstanding golfers of 2022
The Jamaica Golf Association (JGA) toasted the local golfers who earned podium finishes in various events during 2022 and up to earlier this year.
The awards function took place at the Constant Spring Golf Club, ahead of a busy schedule of events across the island.
Some of the events for which the golfers were awarded trophies include the National Amateur Golf Championship, Heroes Weekend at Sandals, AMG Buccaneers Memorial and the Caymanas Golf Classic as well as the WAGR (World Amateur Golf Ranking) events, including an approved arrangement that sees a select set of golfers play 54 holes in two days in order to get world ranking points.
President of the JGA Jodi Munn-Barrow said: “We gave [trophies] for all of our qualifying events and our WAGR events. Justin Burrowes came out on top on a couple of our WAGR events, [and] came second in the national amateur event. William Knibbs came second in many events behind Justin. Dr Newnhan came out top of two WAGR events, which was very good.
“And we had some youngsters like Kemari Morris that topped his 11-13 category division in all events that he played in, so that was really good to see. We still have our regular elite players. We have our juniors coming up and we have a new division called Masters for our over 70 year olds and they are excited about that. We are just happy that golf can be played from very, very young right through your years until you are of an older age.”
The next event on the busy calendar for this year is the junior trials.
