Red-hot Arnett hunt sixth-straight victory against Molynes
Red-hot Arnett Gardens will be hunting their sixth-consecutive win in the Jamaica Premier League when they tackle Molynes United at the Ashenhiem Stadium, starting at 5:30 pm.
In the early game at the same venue, Dunbeholden take on Tivoli Gardens at 3:00 pm, while Humble Lion welcome Montego Bay United at Effortville at 3:00 pm.
In the other two games today, Faulkland FC versus Harbour View at Wespow Park at 4:00 pm and in the late game, Waterhouse FC play Vere United at Drewsland at 5:30 pm.
Then on Monday, there will be a double-header at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex as leaders Mount Pleasant FA play Cavalier at 7:30 pm and Portmore United take on Chapelton FC at 5:00 pm.
The Paul “Tegat” Davis-coached Arnett Gardens, sitting in second spot on 33 points, have thrown down the gauntlet beating most of the title contenders in the remarkable run in recent weeks and are fancied to add Molynes United to that growing list.
Arnett Gardens have dismissed Harbour View, Tivoli Gardens, Cavalier, Portmore United, and last week Waterhouse. They also turned back Mount Pleasant 3-2 on January 9 and ended their unbeaten start to the season.
However, the Alex Thomas-coached Molynes United, sitting in 11th spot on 16 points, will not be sitting ducks in this contest and could very well end the “Junglists” winning streak.
Arnett will be depending on top scorer Fabian Reid to lead from the front once again with the wily Damari Deacon, Shai Smith, Ajuma Johnson and Marlon Allen playing important roles.
Fourth-placed Humble Lion, on 28 points, are in pretty good nick themselves, going unbeaten in their last four games and might just be too hot for a Montego Bay United in transition sitting in ninth spot on 18 points.
Champions Harbour View, fifth spot on 26 points, should get the better of a struggling Faulkland FC team sitting in the relegation zone in 13th spot on eight points. But despite the difference in points, it will not be an easy game for the Stars of the East.
Former champion Waterhouse will be hoping to enhance their top-six play-off position when they play Vere United at Drewsland. Waterhouse are eighth on 21 points, just a point adrift of the sixth-placed team while Vere are 12th with 14 points, six ahead of the dreaded drop zone.
Both Dunbeholden FC and Tivoli Gardens are harbouring thoughts of making the play-offs, and today’s encounter between them will be crucial. Dunbeholden are sixth on 22 points while Tivoli Gardens are further down in 10th on 17 points. Anything but a win today would severely hamper Tivoli Gardens’ play-off hopes.
