Herbert Morrison make back-to-back wins in girls’ basketball
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Former champions Herbert Morrison Technical made it two wins in a row in the ISSA Western Conference girls’ open basketball competition after a lopsided 70-point (86-16) win over newcomers Irwin High at Herbert Morrison on Thursday.
It was back-to-back 80-plus points output from the Herbert Morrison girls after they opened their season on Tuesday with an 80-12 win over William Knibb Memorial.
Defending champions Mt Alvernia High also rebounded from their loss to Irwin on Tuesday to beat Muschett High in a game in which the teams combined for 25 points.
At Herbert Morrison, Nejron Stephenson had a triple-double and Bianca Maxwell had a double-double, while Dandrieka Whittingham led all scorers with 24 points, and Taveena Clarke scored 18 points and had eight assists and six steals.
Stephenson scored 13 points and got 11 rebounds and 10 steals, while Maxwell scored 14 points and had 11 steals as well as seven rebounds.
Samar Poyser scored seven points for Irwin High and Breana Horthorne scored three points and had six rebounds.
After trailing by a point after the first quarter, Mt Alvernia High rallied to beat Muschett High 15-10, with Shemiel Lawrence scoring six points and Tiana Spence scoring four points with four rebounds.
Rihanna McLean scored four points and had three rebounds for Muschett High, while Shanna-Kay Morris scored three points.
