Mt Alvernia to defend girls’ basketball title as league returns
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Mt Alvernia High will start the defence of their ISSA Western Conference girls’ basketball title when the competition tips off today with three games, including a double-header at William Knibb Memorial.
The competition is being played for the first time since it was abandoned in 2020 after the arrival of the COVID-19 virus. Mt Alvernia High won the title in 2019.
Six schools — three from Trelawny and three from St James — are taking part in the competition that will see them play each other twice with the top four teams on points advancing to the semi-finals set for Tuesday, March 28, and the finals two days later.
Today, Mt Alvernia High will host newcomers Irwin High in Montego Bay; Muschett High will take on Holland High in the first game at William Knibb, followed by William Knibb Memorial and Herbert Morrison Technical.
