Price livid after Humble Lions, Faulkland play out drab draw
TUCKER, St James — Andrew Price’s frustrations were palpable after Humble Lions were held to a drab 0-0 draw by relegation-threatened Faulkland FC in their Jamaica Premier League return-round game at Wespow Park on Sunday.
Humble Lions had won the first-round game 2-0 and were hoping for a third-straight win that would have seen them in joint-third place with Arnett Gardens at the end of the day, but Price lamented the “lack of energy” from his players.
On the other side of the field, Faulkland FC’s Gregory Palmer was also bemoaning his players’ efforts in front of goal even as he welcomed the point as they continued their fight to get out of the bottom two.
Humble Lions, who have won two and drawn the other two games in their last four outings, are in fourth position on 28 points, just two behind Arnett Gardens and five more than defending champions Harbour View who had a game in hand.
The teams combined to miss a handful of scoring chances much to the annoyance of the fair-sized crowd and Price.
“I don’t think the team travelled very well today and it was obvious there was no appetite for the game today and I am a bit disappointed with the performance of the team today. We were very flat today and we don’t seem to travel very well.
“Making the trek to Montego Bay, I was looking for some energy and I did not see any energy from the team. I did not see any; we got some opportunities where we should have converted, we had major possession in the game and we were not clinical in front of goal and we were not aggressive enough,” Price said.
Palmer thought his players’ poor form in front of goal cost them two points. “We got chances to win; in the first, Julani Nicholson, in front of goal, kicked a weak shot. Rodcliff Dawkins also had a chance,” he said.
In a game where scoring chances were few and far between, Barnes, who came on in the 57th minute for Dawkins, pounced on a weak clearance from a Humble Lions defender, got around another one and, with only goalkeeper Prince-Daniel Smith to beat from about 14 yards, cannoned the ball off the crossbar.
