Record attendance expected at Hague Show in Trelawny
TRELAWNY, Jamaica – Organisers of the annual Hague Agricultural and Industrial Show are expecting a record turnout this year at the event, which will be held on Ash Wednesday, February 22 at the Hague Show Grounds near Falmouth, Trelawny.
President of the Trelawny Association of Branches Society (TABS), Audrey Nelson said she expects more than 8,000 patrons to attend the 66th staging of the event, which has not been held since 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“In all my years in Trelawny as a business person and also having been involved in this show, I have never felt this kind of energy coming from the staging of the show like what I’m feeling now,” Nelson said.
“The adults are expected to come in the daytime for the horticultural and agricultural aspects as well as taking their children to enjoy the wide variety of activities that will be in place, while the young adults will be coming for the night entertainment… in fact both demographics are expected to be attending all day.”
Nelson said the show, which is being staged by TABS, an affiliate of the Jamaica Agricultural Society, promises to be a fun-filled event.
“It will be all-day activity-filled as during the day, Jenny Jenny and the Dancing Dynamites will be on hand to entertain patrons, the Minister of Agriculture Pearnel Charles Jr will declare the show open at 3:00 pm, then at 6:00 pm we will kick off the entertainment segment with a slew of gospel artistes after which the secular segment will commence with headliners Laa Lee and Kraff,” a beaming Nelson stated.
Roughly $10 million is being spent to stage the event that is known for its rich entertainment package. The show also allows farmers and producers of agricultural products to showcase a diverse offering of agricultural products and services that are aligned with agriculture.
It is being held this year under the theme: ‘Fostering Economic Growth, Through Agricultural Value Chains.’
