St Ann police issue stern warning following curfew, list POI
ST ANN, Jamaica— Following the imposition of a curfew in Steer Town, St Ann on Monday, commanding officer for the parish’s police, Senior Superintendent Dwight Powell has issued a stern warning to violence producers across the parish.
Speaking at a domestic violence pop up clinic in St Ann on Tuesday, SSP Powell sought to highlight the reason for the curfew while assuring residents that the police will be relentless in decreasing crimes in the parish.
According to SSP Powell, as of Monday, February 13, 11 murders were committed, with seven of the 11 taking place in February.
“Already for the month of February, February has accounted for some seven murders across the parish, which is way too high…so when we start to kill the way we are killing in St Ann it is not something that can be accommodated, so we want to say to all those persons who are bent on taking lives that the security forces in St Ann will not stand idly and allow you to go on your rampage,” he said.
The commanding officer said as such a curfew had to be imposed in Steer Town which he says has been registering several violent activities.
“So in consultation with police high command we launched a curfew over in Damhead Steer Town…the curfew…is to fix the issues is happening in Steer Town of course we having violence, we have seen a few murders since the start of the year in Steer Town, we have seen some shooting incidents and I’m going to say to the criminal element over in Steer Town that as long as I am the commanding officer for St Ann you will not be allowed to have your field day we’ll find you we’ll fix the problem, we will address the problem…and so we will find you and get the problem fixed,” he warned.
SSP Powell gave the warning while calling on Kemar Matthews, also called ‘Bibby’ or ‘Bitter’, and Chevon Brown, also called ‘Crackhead’, both of the area, to turn themselves in by Wednesday February 15 at 6pm, as they are persons of interest related to incidents in the parish.
He also called on Shaquille Fyffe of Pineapple in the parish and a man identified as ‘Lengki’, also of Pineapple, who were also listed as persons of interest, to turn themselves in.
“We are seeing some conflict…up in Pineapple and so we have some people that umm we want to list again as persons of interest and let me just use this opportunity right here…to ask Mr Shaquille Fyffe from Pineapple to make contact to the police, were gonna also ask his friend Mr Lengki from Pineapple to make contact with the police,” he said.
He made the call while noting that the curfew will be strictly enforced.
