Florida woman dies after wave flips kayak
A woman is dead after the wake from a large boat caused her kayak to overturn in waters in Okaloosa County, Florida.
The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Bethany Newman of Destin in Okaloosa County. Her cause of death was not released by officials.
According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, about 6:15 pm on Saturday, Newman and another person were on a kayak in Destin Harbor when it was overturned by the wake from a large boat.
Newman’s companion was found clinging onto a pylon about 9pm later on Saturday, and was rescued. However, tragically, Newman was found dead early Sunday.
In a social media post, the sheriff’s office said it was “saddened” by the tragedy and added that the Florida Fish and Wildlife was handling the investigation into the incident.
