EPL: League leaders Arsenal face tough test against high-riding Brentford

Big-spending and yet underperforming Chelsea will play their second-consecutive London derby when they travel across town to face relegation-threatened West Ham on Saturday, February 11, then later in the day, league leaders Arsenal will be out to avoid a third-successive loss in all competitions when they host Brentford at the Emirates Stadium in an eagerly anticipated encounter.

Event # 1 – EPL – West Ham vs Chelsea – 7:30 am

A tricky clash between West Ham and Chelsea sees two managers who have experienced increasing pressure go head-to-head in a must-win match for both teams.

A lack of goals has proven to be West Ham’s undoing so far, as they now find themselves two league places and just a point above the relegation zone. The Hammers, West Ham, have managed to secure just one win from their last nine league matches and that rare win came in the form of a 2-0 victory over fellow strugglers, Everton, which also proved to be the final game of Frank Lampard’s tenure at Everton.

Since then West Ham have suffered six losses from their last eight games, so a loss against Chelsea could prove to be fatal for manager David Moyes.

Chelsea, under the guidance of newly appointed manager Graham Potter have finished outside of the top six in the Premier League only once in their last 20 seasons in the top flight (2015/16), but they are now in real danger of emulating this unwanted record this season, and results away from home have been a major concern for the Blues, Chelsea. Also, they have won just one of the last seven matches and their lack of goals has haunted them all season. The Blues have played out back-to-back 0-0 draws with Liverpool and Fulham in their last two matches, following a narrow 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on January 15.

KEY STATS

West Ham – have alternated between winning (4) and not winning (D1 L2) in their last seven Premier League home games against Chelsea, winning this exact fixture 3-2 last season.

Chelsea – last two Premier League matches have finished 0-0 – they have failed to score in more consecutive league games in September 2007 (4), while they’ve never had three consecutive goalless draws in their league history.

Both sides – Chelsea have won four of their last five Premier League games against West Ham (L1) and are looking to win three in a row against them for the first time since April 2011.

The betting tip. Draw & Under 2.5 goals.

Event # 2 EPL – Arsenal vs Brentford – 10:00 am

Arsenal will be aiming to avoid a third successive loss in all competitions when they host a tricky Brentford side tomorrow, Saturday.

Following Manchester City’s 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday, Arsenal remains five points ahead in the title race, but they face a pivotal week to prove their title credentials, starting with the visit of Brentford.

For, the first time this season, Arsenal are facing questions in the Premier League title race following their 0-1 upset loss against struggling Everton and their 1-0 loss to City in the FA Cup. However, Arsenal, the Gunners, will be looking for an immediate response at home as their two losses in the league so far have been on the road.

On the flip side, there will be no such question for Brentford if they can secure a win against the league leaders, as they are enjoying an excellent second season in the top-flight.

Brentford, in recent weeks, look to be a serious contender for a European place, as they sit seventh at the half way stage of the competition. The Bees, Brentford, have been in tremendous form in recent times, winning four of their last five league matches, and they enter this match following another dominant performance at the weekend, thrashing a hapless Southampton 3-0 at home. With that said, a famous win over the impressive league leaders Arsenal tomorrow, could lift them to within three points of fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

KEY STATS

Arsenal – are looking to complete the Premier League double over Brentford, following their 3-0 win at the Brentford Community Stadium earlier this season. The Bees would be the 47th different club the Gunners have beaten home and away in the same Premier League campaign, more than any other side.

Brentford – are unbeaten in their last nine Premier League matches (W5 D4), with only Newcastle United (16) on a longer current run without defeat. The Bees are also looking to keep four consecutive clean sheets as a top-flight side for the first time, last doing so in any division in July 2020 (5).

Both sides – Brentford have won just one of their eight away games against Arsenal in all competitions (D3 L4), winning a top-flight match 2-0 at Highbury in April 1938.

The betting tip. Arsenal win & both teams to score – (1-GG).
