Vows: Floating into Love
Saturday, November 19, 2022, will forever be etched in the memories of Akim Wallace and Kerry-Ann Fagan, who pledged everlasting love in a heartfelt ceremony at Caymanas Golf Club.
There was no bolt of lightning upon their first encounter. Truth be told, not even a faint spark. Akim and Kerry-Ann were, in 2015, working at the same establishment. “Akim asked me for my number. I figured he looked okay, so decided to see where it would go,” Kerry-Ann shared with Tuesday Style Vows (TSV).
The two would spend seven years getting to know each other, meeting each other’s family and friends, dating and travelling. The subject of marriage had been broached on several occasions but Kerry-Ann was caught completely off guard when the proposal actually came on January 15, 2022.
It was her birthday and she had planned a birthday photoshoot at Palisadoes Road. Akim decided to up the ante around Kerry-Ann’s birthday celebrations by asking for her hand in marriage.
“Vehicles started to pull up with my friends and family,” enthused Kerry-Ann as she recalled the moment. “Then in all the excitement and picture taking, I turned around to see Akim on one knee… I vaguely recall Jason Derulo’s Marry Me playing in the background. I was not shocked but, rather, excited and overjoyed to see that he had planned all of this for me. Unlike the typical “Yes!” you hear in the movies, my words to him when he asked me to marry him were, ‘Of course!'” she reminisced with a smile.
“I remember the cheers from everyone when I agreed. Plus, the outpouring of love and support. Akim made sure that I would never forget this day, this birthday.”
The wedding took place on the lawns of the Caymanas Golf Club. The theme was bright, fun colours with shades of purple, turquoise and gold accents created by Violet Lewinson.
Standing patiently at the altar was the bridegroom, dapper in a royal purple three-piece suit with gold piping and purple tie. Aerosmith’s I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing signalled Kerry-Ann’s arrival on the arm of her mum Barbara Fagan. She made a pretty picture in a Maggie Sottero full-lace, sweetheart mermaid gown with beaded straps from Bliss Bridal Boutique.
The heartfelt ceremony was officiated by Bishop Dr Alma Blair and Pastor Steve Blair and included a sand ceremony.
Formalities at the reception were ably handled by Christopher Johnson who brought the vibes and fun to the celebration.
The bride made her entrance to the pulsating sounds of Keri Hilson’s Pretty Girl Rock while Laa Lee’s Floating signalled the bridegroom’s.
Master of ceremonies Christopher Johnson asked each table to dance to a song while other guests enjoyed the three-course meal catered by Chefs Rushane Stewart and Steven Grant. Guests then witnessed the cutting of the four-tiered coconut cake from Neisha Harper-Davis.
Formalities continued post-dinner with the newly-weds’ first dance to a medley of songs. The father/daughter dance followed — family friend Ashton Allen stood in for Kerry-Ann’s dad who is deceased — and the mother and son dance. The removal of the garter and tossing of the bouquet caused much excitement.
The reception closed with lots of dancing and guests capturing moments with the newly-weds.
The couple shared with TSD, as they headed to Bahia Principe, Runaway Bay, to commence their honeymoon, that it was a day that will be forever remembered.
