Tivoli-Arnett clash promises on-field fireworks
DESPITE their positions in the table, historically any clash between Arnett Gardens and Tivoli Gardens is a mammoth one — and today’s encounter should be no different.
The fierce rivals will meet in the feature match of a double-header at Ashenhiem Stadium starting 5:30 pm, but before that Cavalier will tackle Montego Bay United at 3:00 pm.
There will be three other games at 3:00 pm across the island as Mount Pleasant host Dunbeholden at Drax Hall; Humble Lions take on Waterhouse at Effortville Community Centre; and Harbour View travel to the Wembley Centre of Excellence to play Vere United.
On Monday there will be another double-header at Ashenhiem Stadium as Portmore United play Molynes United at 5:00 pm before Chapelton Maroons take on Faulkland FC in a bottom-of-the-table clash.
But in what is expected to be a fiery game between two teams on the rise, fans should be in for a treat from Arnett and Tivoli Gardens, both employing the attacking philosophy.
Arnett Gardens sit third in the table with 21 points, six places and five points ahead of Tivoli Gardens down in ninth spot, but that is of no significance as those statistics have no bearing on a competitive fixture as this.
Arnett Gardens will look to veteran striker Fabian Reid to lead from the front, and he will be supported by Shai Smith, Romeo Guthrie, Marlon Allen and Ajuma Johnson.
Tivoli Gardens, who went seven games without a victory, are now hunting their fourth-consecutive win as they continue their climb into the top half of the league.
Rodico Wellington, Diego McKenzie, Keno Simpson, Justin Dunn and Tommy Lawrence are expected to be the main players for Tivoli Gardens to continue their winning ways.
Meanwhile, leaders Mount Pleasant, on 27 points, tackle Dunbeholden sitting in sixth spot on 19 points in what is expected to be an intense match between two quality teams.
Mount Pleasant played with 10 men to beat Humble Lions last week and that result would have boosted their confidence even further, thus they will be hard to beat once more — especially playing at home.
Second-place Cavalier, on 25 points, will be hoping to see off 10th-place Montego Bay United on 15 points and that leaders Mount Pleasant slip up as they hunt the top spot. Cavalier have won four of their last five games and could prove too hot for Montego Bay United.
Clarendon-based Humble Lions, in fourth spot on 20 points, will be hoping to rebound from their heart-wrenching loss to Mount Pleasant last week when they play a seventh-place Waterhouse on 17 points who are looking to break into the top six.
In the fifth game on Sunday, fifth-place Harbour View on 19 points should be too much for a Vere United team down in 12th spot on 10 points. Both teams are struggling for wins, with Harbour View winning just once in their last five games and Vere having won just once all season.
