Freezone 8-a-side football gets cracking Monday
MONTEGO BAY, St James — The Sagility-sponsored Global Services Association of Jamaica (GSAJ) national 8-a-side football league is set to get underway tomorrow with games in both eastern and western divisions.
The competition, which has been sponsored to the tune of nearly $3 million, was revived after a period of dormancy and was officially launched at a press conference at the Montego Bay Freezone on Monday when it was announced that the 26 teams comprised employees in the GSAJ industry.
Ten teams will contest the Eastern Division, consisting of players in Kingston and Portmore, while another 16 teams will play in the Western Division and include squads from Montego Bay.
The league will see teams playing a return-round format in the first round and the top two, the finalists from each division, will contest the play-offs for the all-island title.
The winners of the all-island title will take home $250,000 plus the championship trophy, while the runner-up will get $100,000.
