Tufton injured in bicycle spill, urges riders to wear helmet
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Health and Wellness Minister Dr Christopher Tufton was injured in a bicycle spill on Saturday during an early morning ride with a large group in memory of cyclist Winston “Blacks” Brown, who died on January 10.
Brown died at 60.
The more than 150 cyclists had gathered in groups at Sovereign Centre and Cycle City at 6:00 am, travelled to downtown Kingston then on to Port Royal.
The spill occurred on the way back from Port Royal, leaving Tufton with minor injuries to his face, chin, and shoulder.
He was taken to University Hospital of the West Indies where he received stitches.
“Luckily I was wearing a helmet. If you cycle or ride a bike, expect to fall at some point. Wear your helmet, it saves lives,” Tufton said when contacted by OBSERVER ONLINE.
