THE FLOUR GIRL JA — Cake & Sip

THE FLOUR GIRL JA — Cake & Sip

What’s better than decorating a cake at a fun class headed by your fave baker? Sipping wine while doing so!

Asha Atkinson, also known as The Flour Girl, is clearly on to something with her Cake & Sip event. The concept — one she admits she sat on for two years — is a fun spin on the popular paint & sip parties, and is still quite new to Jamaica.

The novelty, we reckon, was reason enough to attract 18 participants to the cake-decorating class headed by Atkinson at Cafe Dolce, Barbican Road. The baker, who got her start just over two years ago selling banana bread at her mum’s office, is now baking up a storm as she helms The Flour Girl Ja, a full-fledged bake shop that offers intricately decorated cakes, cookies, and breads.

After a Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi welcome drink, Atkinson guided attendees through each stage of the process before allowing them to release their creativity on their five-inch vanilla cakes. Along the way, they learned essential tips and tricks for decorating a Christmas cake to satisfy respective whims and fancies.

The satisfied smiles on the faces of each patron spoke to the success of the novel affair.

Thursday Food looks forward to the next!
