Portmore to boost strike options, says coach
WITH just seven goals from eight matches in this season’s Jamaica Premier League (JPL) competition, Portmore United Head Coach Phillip Williams says they will be actively seeking a striker in this month’s transfer window as a fix for their goalscoring challenges.
Portmore, unbeaten in the competition so far this season, recorded their third victory of the season when they edged defending champions Harbour View FC 1-0 at Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex on Monday night.
Defender Emeilo Rousseau scored the lone goal for Portmore United from the penalty in the 49th minute of the match. The victory lifted Portmore United in fifth spot with 14 points, six behind leaders Mount Pleasant Academy.
Williams said that his team has been creating ample scoring chances but has largely failed to convert.
“We are very deficient up front, as you can see in terms of our goalscoring tally, and that is an area that we are looking to boost in the transfer market,” said Williams.
“This goal against Harbour View is our seventh goal from eight matches. And in terms of the chances that we have created over these eight games, I think that should have been a much higher tally and so that is an area that we need to improve on going forward,” he said.
Williams said he is very pleased with his team’s performance in the competition so far because they have managed to maintain their unbeaten run.
“I am feeling good at this point because our unbeaten run is still intact and the team is a new project and is one that is growing, and so I am definitely happy about these three points against Harbour View,” he said.
