Molynes clip Dunbeholden for third win of season
MOLYNES United recorded their third victory this season in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) after their 1-0 victory over Dunbeholden at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex on Monday.
Former national youth player Jason Wright scored the all-important goal in the 56th minute.
The victory moves Molynes United up from 12th to ninth in the standings on nine points, ahead of Dunbeholden who are also on nine points in 10th place.
The first half was evenly contested as both teams cancelled out each other out at both ends of the field.
In fact Wright, a former Wolmer’s Boys’ Manning Cup standout, missed a clear opportunity for Molynes United in the 35th minute when his shot went wide of the target from 12 yards.
However, Wright made up for his first-half miss when he collected a pass inside the 18-yard box before dribbling around two defenders and then unleashing a powerful shot past goalkeeper Damion Hyatt.
Dunbeholden tried desperately to level the score by creating a number of scoring opportunities but they were kept out due to excellent goalkeeping from Peter Harrison.
On some of those occasions, the Molynes goalie was at his very best to deny substitutes Stephen Williams and Pete McGregor with a number of point-blank stops.
Victorious Coach Alex Thomas said he was pleased with his team’s performance
” I feel very elated for this victory because we lost our last game 5-0 and to come back here and get a victory is really good for my team,” said Thomas.
Dunbeholden assistant boss Ricardo Smith blamed his team’s defeat on poor finishing.
“It was not our best performance because, as you can see, we lost the game — which we should have won quite easily — as we missed a number of chances in the game,” he said.
